UPI One World wallet opened for international visitors at India AI Impact Summit

As global delegates arrive in the capital for a major technology gathering, India’s digital payments network has rolled out a new facility to simplify transactions for foreign visitors.

The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) on Monday announced that its ‘UPI One World’ wallet service is now live for international travellers attending the ongoing 5-day India AI Impact Summit. The initiative is being introduced as a pilot during the event.

Under this facility, inbound foreign travellers can make secure and real-time Person-to-Merchant (P2M) UPI payments while staying in India. The service allows visitors to use UPI without requiring an Indian mobile number or a local bank account.

“The ‘UPI One World’ wallet is available through authorised PPI issuers at New Delhi International Airport and at the NPCI Pavilion (Hall 14, Stall number 14.16) in Bharat Mandapam,” NPCI said in a statement.

Travellers can load the wallet using multiple payment methods and complete transactions by scanning UPI QR codes through the PPI-UPI application. The system removes the need to carry cash or deal with foreign exchange-related challenges during their visit.

NPCI also clarified that any unused balance in the wallet can be transferred back to the original payment source, in line with foreign exchange regulations.

The India AI Impact Summit 2026 is being held from February 16 to 20 at the Bharat Mandapam complex in Delhi, the same venue that hosted the G-20 Summit in 2023.

The event is expected to draw participants from about 100 countries, including global technology leaders Sundar Pichai and Sam Altman, along with leaders from nearly 20 countries, such as Brazil and France.
