MiniMax launches M2.5 AI model focused on real-world productivity

Amid rapid developments in China’s artificial intelligence space, a new language model has entered the spotlight with a strong focus on practical and cost-efficient use.

China-based AI company MiniMax has launched its latest large language model, M2.5, positioning it as a tool built for real-world productivity. The launch comes during a busy period for China’s AI industry, marked by multiple new model releases and upgrades.

According to the company, M2.5 delivers performance comparable to leading models developed by US-based firms such as Anthropic and OpenAI. MiniMax said its internal benchmarks show strong results in tasks including coding and search.

The M2.5 model is built with 230 billion parameters and has been designed to be cost-efficient. MiniMax claims the model can support continuous usage at a speed of 100 tokens per second for US$1, making it suitable for sustained enterprise and productivity use.

MiniMax also highlighted the model’s integration into its AI agent product, MiniMax Agent. This agent is designed to autonomously carry out office-related tasks, reducing the need for manual intervention in routine workflows.

The company reported that M2.5 has already been deployed internally, with 30% of tasks across multiple departments being completed using the model. This, MiniMax said, reflects the system’s ability to handle real operational workloads rather than only experimental use cases.

With the launch of M2.5, MiniMax is aiming to strengthen its position in the competitive AI model market by focusing on efficiency, autonomy, and practical business applications.
