Kotak Alternate raises Rs. 3,900 crore in first close of private credit fund

Kotak Alternate Asset Managers has announced a Rs. 3,900 crore fundraise that will be deployed in private credit opportunities. The capital has been raised entirely from domestic investors, marking a significant milestone for the platform in the Indian alternative investment space.

The fundraise represents the first close of the Kotak Yield and Growth Fund, which has a target corpus of Rs 5,000 crore. According to the company, the Rs 3,900 crore raised is the largest first round fundraise by an Indian platform from domestic investors. The commitments have come from family offices, Ultra High Net Worth Individuals and insurance companies and were mobilised solely through Kotak Private Banking relationships.

The sector agnostic fund will focus on generating risk adjusted returns by combining stable yield generating assets with selective growth opportunities. The investment strategy includes lending to cash flow positive assets and mid to large sized enterprises that follow strong governance practices. Capital preservation remains a key principle guiding the fund’s investment philosophy.

Kotak Alternate Managing Director, Srini Sriniwasan said this is the first time the firm has raised a fund exclusively from domestic investors. “In an evolving credit environment, investors increasingly seek predictable income with downside protection,” the fund’s Chief Executive, Amit Jain said. The fund aims to meet this demand by offering structured private credit solutions while maintaining a disciplined approach to risk management.
