Akasa Air co-founder Praveen Iyer steps down as Chief Commercial Officer

In a significant leadership development at Akasa Air, co-founder and Chief Commercial Officer Praveen Iyer has resigned from the airline. His departure marks the second high-level exit at the 3-year-old carrier.

Iyer was part of the founding team when Akasa Air began operations in August 2022. He also served as a member of the airline’s executive committee. Following his exit, the airline has appointed Chief Information Officer Anand Srinivasan as the new commercial head.

Last year, another co-founder, Neelu Khatri, who led international operations, stepped down from the airline.

Akasa Air is backed by the family of late investor Rakesh Jhunjhunwala. In August 2025, the airline raised fresh capital from family offices of Wipro founder Azim Premji and Ranjan Pai.

Iyer’s resignation comes at a time when the airline has begun accelerating its expansion plans after facing a period of slow growth. The slowdown was largely due to aircraft delivery delays from manufacturer Boeing.

The airline has inducted 3 aircraft this year and plans to add around 12 more planes within the same year as part of its growth strategy.

Currently, Akasa Air holds about 5% of the domestic aviation market. The airline did not comment in response to queries regarding Iyer’s resignation.

The leadership change comes as the airline continues to strengthen operations and expand its fleet in a competitive aviation market.
