In a bid to make the platform more engaging, Facebook is introducing new artificial intelligence features aimed at improving how users create and share content.
The latest update will allow users to animate their profile pictures and restyle Stories and Memories. Users will also be able to add animated backgrounds to text posts, making them stand out more clearly in the feed. The move is part of Meta’s broader strategy to make Facebook more culturally relevant.
The animated profile picture feature lets users add motion to a still image using preset animation styles. These include “natural, party hat, confetti, wave, and heart,” according to Meta. The company recommends using a photo with 1 person looking at the camera, with a clearly visible face and no objects in hand. Meta said more animation options will be added throughout the year.
Facebook is also adding AI-powered tools to restyle Stories and Memories. Users can tap the Restyle button and either type the changes they want or select from preset styles such as “anime” or “low-poly.” The feature uses AI to give users more control over the look and feel of their content and is aimed at enhancing the overall user experience.
In addition, Facebook is introducing animated backgrounds for text posts. While creating a post, users can tap an A icon over a rainbow background to access different background styles. The menu includes both animated and still options, offering more creative ways to present text-based posts.
These updates highlight Meta’s continued focus on using AI to improve engagement and creativity across Facebook.
