In this role, he will oversee risk governance, regulatory compliance, and control frameworks across the global wealth and premier banking franchise. Sharma steps into the position after serving as CEO, EMEA for International Wealth & Premier Banking. He also held the role of Global Chief Commercial Officer (Interim), where he led strategic growth initiatives and transformation efforts across key markets.
Sharma’s elevation reflects HSBC’s focus on strengthening risk oversight and governance within its international wealth and premier banking operations.
Before joining HSBC, Sharma spent over 20 years at Citi, holding several senior leadership roles. Among them, he served as Managing Director & CEO – Consumer Bank Middle East and as Chief Risk Officer, Consumer Bank EMEA. In the latter role, he managed risk operations across 23 countries.
Throughout his career, Sharma has built deep expertise in consumer banking, risk management, regulatory frameworks, and international market operations. His experience across diverse geographies and business environments positions him strongly to lead HSBC’s global risk and compliance mandate within its wealth and premier banking segment.
With this appointment, HSBC reinforces its commitment to robust governance and regulatory standards across its international franchise.
