Salesforce trims workforce as AI reshapes business priorities

Early this month, cloud software firm Salesforce reduced its workforce by fewer than 1,000 roles, according to a report by a publication that cited a person familiar with the matter. The job cuts come as companies across the U.S. continue to adjust their operations in response to the growing use of artificial intelligence tools.

The impacted positions reportedly spanned marketing, product management, data analytics, and the Agentforce AI product team. The publication based its report on LinkedIn posts and conversations with 2 employees.

Another publication said it could not immediately verify the report. Salesforce also did not immediately respond to a request for comment from the publication.

The layoffs reflect a broader trend seen at the start of the year, with several U.S. companies announcing workforce reductions as they streamline operations and integrate AI-driven systems. Automation and AI adoption are increasingly changing staffing needs across industries.

In January, technology major Amazon said it was cutting 16,000 roles worldwide. This marked the company’s second major round of job cuts in 3 months.

Salesforce’s leadership has previously spoken openly about the impact of AI on staffing. In August last year, Chief Executive Officer Marc Benioff said during a podcast that the company had reduced 4,000 customer support roles. He explained the decision by saying the company needed “less heads” as AI tools took on more tasks.

Despite the recent layoffs, Salesforce has signaled confidence in its financial outlook. In December, the company raised its fiscal 2026 revenue and adjusted profit forecasts. This move was based on expected growth in its AI agent platform, driven by strong demand from enterprise customers.

Salesforce is scheduled to announce its fourth-quarter results on February 25, a report that will be closely watched amid ongoing changes in the technology sector.
