Mahindra plans Rs 15,000 crore investment in Maharashtra, Nagpur plant to anchor expansion

Signalling a major push to strengthen its manufacturing base, the Mahindra Group on Friday announced plans to invest Rs 15,000 crore in Maharashtra over the next 10 years. The investment includes setting up a new automobile and tractor manufacturing facility in Nagpur.

As part of the expansion, the group will also acquire land in the Igatpuri–Nashik region. This will be used to scale up existing product and engine capacities and to support the growth of Mahindra’s Advanced Technology business, the company said in a statement.

The proposed Nagpur unit will be the group’s largest integrated manufacturing facility for automobiles and tractors. According to the company, production at the plant is expected to begin in 2028.

“With these initiatives, Mahindra is committing a comprehensive investment of Rs 15,000 crore over a ten-year period in Maharashtra and will acquire over 2,000 acres across three locations to further strengthen its manufacturing footprint,” the statement said.

Once fully operational, the Nagpur facility will have an annual production capacity of more than 5 lakh vehicles and 1 lakh tractors. This will make it Mahindra’s largest integrated manufacturing footprint in India, the company added.

The announcement was made at Advantage Vidarbha, a 3-day flagship event aimed at positioning the Vidarbha region as an emerging industrial growth hub on India’s manufacturing map.
