Microsoft Teams to upgrade how users view profiles and meetings

Subtle interface changes are on the way as Microsoft looks to improve how people connect and organise work inside its collaboration platform.

Despite ongoing user complaints about performance on forums and social media, Microsoft continues to expand features in Microsoft Teams. The company has already rolled out speed improvements in recent months and is now preparing new updates focused on visibility of coworkers and meeting management.

Details were shared through the Microsoft 365 Roadmap, which lists upcoming features for Microsoft apps and services. For Teams users, 2 key updates stand out.

The first update expands the People Skills feature from Microsoft 365 profile cards into Microsoft Teams. This will allow colleagues to view each other’s skills directly from the Teams profile card. According to the feature description, it aims to make it “easier to learn about colleagues, build meaningful connections, and manage their own skills profile right from within their everyday flow of work.”

For managers, this means forming project teams will become simpler. Instead of checking skills through direct messages, they will be able to rely on profile information if team members keep their skills updated. Microsoft plans to introduce this feature on both Mac and desktop versions of Teams.

The second update focuses on calendar usability. Teams will soon get a basic option to print calendar events directly from the app. Users will also be able to choose whether or not to include the attendee list on the printout. This printing feature will be available only on the Teams web version when it launches.

Both features currently have tentative release timelines. As per the Roadmap, they are expected to roll out in March this year, though Microsoft notes that timelines may change.

Microsoft has already confirmed that autocorrect will arrive on Teams in February. Together with the new profile and calendar updates, the company is placing stronger emphasis on daily workflow improvements rather than just performance fixes.

Whether more speed upgrades will follow later this year remains unclear. For now, Microsoft is focused on making collaboration more visible and easier to manage within Teams.
