Sarvesh Kumar took charge in January 2026 and is based in Faridabad, Haryana. His appointment follows a career of over 30 years at IndianOil, marked by major contributions in refining technology, hydroprocessing, R&D, and technology commercialisation, with strong focus on sustainable and renewable energy.
Before this role, Kumar served as Chief General Manager at the IndianOil R&D Centre for about 4 years. He led the Refining Technology domain with emphasis on renewable energy and bio-energy projects. During this period, he drove catalyst research, profitability improvement initiatives, and enhancement of analytical capabilities. He also worked with several divisions to improve project efficiency and was part of the Business Development Committee for IndianOil’s joint venture with TOTAL, focusing on innovative bitumen solutions.
Earlier, Kumar spent about 4 years as General Manager, heading multiple departments in the Refining Technology function at the R&D Centre. His work supported “need of the hour” technologies such as fuel quality upgradation, GRM improvement, and niche products like Avgas and refinery fuels. He also served as a Project Appraisal Group member, evaluating high-value R&D projects for approval at DIR (R&D) level.
Before that, Kumar worked for around 4 years as Deputy General Manager. He led development and commercialisation of several hydroprocessing technologies and launched future-focused projects linked to circular economy and biofuels, supporting IndianOil’s energy transition roadmap.
As Chief Research Manager, he headed the Hydroprocessing domain with focus on fuel quality upgradation in line with BS VI standards. He developed a process for green diesel production using non-edible oil as feedstock, which was successfully demonstrated at CPCL. He also worked closely with multiple teams on technology deployment and sustainability improvements.
Earlier, Kumar served as Research Manager, leading gasoline and kerosene desulfurisation technologies, and as Deputy Research Manager, where he helped develop and deploy LPG treatment technology (CFC) across Indian refineries, earning recognition through awards.
He began his career as Chemical Engineer at IndianOil and was part of the team that set up India’s first Hydroprocessing lab at IndianOil R&D. Later, as Senior Chemical Engineer, he played a key role in developing India’s first indigenous hydroprocessing technology for food and polymer grade hexane production.
