Nintendo expected to kick-off 2026 with a Partner Showcase Direct

Speculation is growing that Nintendo is preparing its first major presentation of 2026, with reports suggesting a Nintendo Direct broadcast could arrive as early as next week. The upcoming showcase is expected to focus on games from external developers rather than Nintendo’s own studios.

According to industry insider NateTheHate, Nintendo is planning to host a Direct livestream sometime in February. In a recent video discussing Nintendo Switch 2 expectations for 2026, the tipster said the presentation could take place during the opening week of the month. “From what I’ve been told, the first Direct of 2026 will be held during the opening week of February, with an expectation of broadcast on Thursday, February 5,” he said, citing sources familiar with the plans.

The insider later clarified on X that the event would be a Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase. This format highlights games from third party developers coming to Nintendo platforms, including the Nintendo Switch and the upcoming Switch 2. The most recent Partner Showcase was held in July 2025, where several titles were revealed for the Switch 2, such as Star Wars Outlaws, Cronos The New Dawn, Yakuza Kiwami, Yakuza Kiwami 2 and Octopath Traveler 0. Nintendo has not officially confirmed any Direct presentation scheduled for February.

Earlier this week, Nintendo did host a smaller Direct focused entirely on the social simulation title Tomodachi Life Living the Dream, which is set to launch on April 16, 2026, for Nintendo Switch. Fans are now waiting for a full Nintendo Direct that could reveal major first party titles planned for the Switch 2 in 2026, including the next Super Mario game. The last full Nintendo Direct aired in December 2025, featuring updates on Fire Emblem Fortune’s Weave, Donkey Kong Bananza DLC, and Super Mario Galaxy with Super Mario Galaxy 2.
