Strengthening its technology footprint in India, US-based money transfer company Western Union has launched a new global capability centre (GCC) in Hyderabad, with a strong focus on AI-led innovation and advanced engineering.
The new centre has been set up in partnership with HCLTech and marks Western Union’s 2nd GCC in India, following its existing technology hub in Pune. The Hyderabad GCC, along with the Pune centre, will function as a global hub for technology, engineering, and operations.
Western Union said the 2 centres will support the development of next-generation payments infrastructure, enhance digital consumer experiences, and strengthen internal capabilities aligned with the company’s ‘Beyond’ strategy. The company will also use HCLTech’s AI-powered offerings, including AI Force, to accelerate product and platform modernisation.
The Hyderabad GCC is expected to accommodate around 400 employees, according to an announcement made in December.
Devin McGranahan, president and CEO of Western Union, said the new centre represents a key milestone in the company’s transformation journey and growing presence in India. “Through our strategic partnership with HCLTech, we are combining deep engineering expertise with advanced AI capabilities to go beyond payments, accelerate innovation and deliver seamless, secure experiences for millions of customers worldwide.”
With this expansion, Western Union aims to further strengthen its global technology capabilities while tapping into India’s skilled talent pool to drive innovation at scale.
