Anthropic introduces interactive workplace apps inside Claude chatbot

Expanding Claude’s role in enterprise work, Anthropic has launched a new feature that allows users to run interactive apps directly inside the chatbot interface. The update enables Claude to connect with workplace tools and perform actions such as sending messages, creating designs, or accessing files from within a single chat window.

The first set of apps is focused on professional use cases. These include Slack, Canva, Figma, Box, and Clay, with a Salesforce integration expected soon. Once connected, Claude can work with a logged-in version of each service. Users can send Slack messages, generate charts, or retrieve cloud documents, depending on which tools are enabled.

“Analyzing data, designing content, and managing projects all work better with a dedicated visual interface,” Anthropic said in a blog post announcing the feature. “Combined with Claude’s intelligence, you can work and iterate faster than either could offer alone.”

The new app feature is available only to Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise subscribers. Free users do not have access. Eligible users can activate the tools through claude.ai/directory.

The system is similar to the app integrations launched earlier by another AI provider, which also allow third-party tools to work inside a chatbot. Both platforms use the Model Context Protocol (MCP), an open standard introduced by Anthropic in 2024. Support for apps through MCP began in November and is based on joint technical work across the industry.

These apps will become more powerful when combined with Claude Cowork, an agent tool introduced by Anthropic last week. Built on Claude Code, Cowork allows users to assign multi-step tasks that draw on large datasets without using command-line tools. With app access, Cowork could work on live projects, such as updating a design in Figma or pulling new data from a company’s Box account.

Apps are not yet active inside Cowork, but Anthropic said this feature is “coming soon.”

Anthropic also warned users to be careful with permissions. Its safety guidance advises close monitoring of agent activity and limiting access to sensitive information.

“Be cautious about granting access to sensitive information like financial documents, credentials, or personal records,” the company said. “Consider creating a dedicated working folder for Claude rather than granting broad access.”
