Unilever explores setting up global capability centre in Hyderabad at World Economic Forum

At the World Economic Forum in Davos, global consumer goods company Unilever showed strong interest in setting up a Global Capability Centre in Hyderabad. The idea was discussed during a strategic meeting between a senior Telangana delegation, led by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, and Willem Uijen, Unilever’s Chief Supply Chain and Operations Officer.

During the talks, the Chief Minister presented Hyderabad as a fast growing global hub for capability centres. These centres support multinational companies by handling high value functions such as research and development, digital transformation and finance.

Uijen said Unilever is keen to study the city’s potential, praising its strong infrastructure and skilled workforce. Minister for IT and Industries D Sridhar Babu supported this view and highlighted Hyderabad’s strong record in hosting global companies.

“Hyderabad is already home to the GCCs of major FMCG players like McDonald’s, Heineken and Costco,” stated Minister Sridhar Babu. “Unilever is a prized partner, and we offer the policy continuity and fast paced approvals essential for global business growth.”

The Telangana delegation also invited Unilever to consider setting up Fast Moving Consumer Goods manufacturing units in the state’s specialised industrial parks. This would help expand the company’s presence beyond digital and operational services.

Sustainability was another key focus of the meeting. Both sides discussed how Unilever’s global 2026 goals on climate action and plastic reduction could align with Telangana’s local efforts.

The areas of collaboration included renewable energy use in industrial operations, water positive farming and industrial practices, and the development of circular economy models for plastic waste reduction and recycling.

Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy and other senior officials were also present at the meeting. Their participation showed the state government’s collective commitment to bringing the project forward.
