AI adoption grows in India, but job redesign remains slow

A new report by Accenture shows that artificial intelligence adoption is rising quickly in India, but many organisations are yet to redesign jobs and learning systems to match this shift. The report suggests that top business leaders remain confident about AI and are planning to increase their investments in the technology.

Based on the company Pulse of Change survey, nearly 88 percent of C suite leaders in India plan to raise their AI spending this year. Among them, 69 percent see AI as a key driver of revenue growth rather than just a way to cut costs. However, 27 percent of executives say the lack of skilled talent remains a major challenge.

Despite the growing focus on AI, the report highlights gaps in workforce preparation. Only 24 percent of organisations in India have started continuous learning programmes related to AI. Less than 10 percent have redesigned job roles to better support AI driven work.

The survey included 3,650 C suite leaders and 3,350 non C suite employees from large organisations across 20 countries. It found that 60 percent of Indian C suite leaders are willing to further increase AI spending. At the same time, only half of them are open to increasing hiring if the AI bubble bursts in the future.

The report notes that AI has moved beyond the testing phase and is now widely used by enterprises. In India, around 41 percent of organisations use AI agents to complete different tasks. About 24 percent have deployed AI powered end to end processes. More than one third, or 39 percent, of C suite leaders use generative AI tools daily.

While skilled professionals remain in short supply, most organisations believe their workforce has basic training to use AI tools. In India, 47 percent of employees already use AI to improve efficiency. Around 83 percent believe the technology can make a strong business impact.

The report also states that 64 percent of C suite leaders now prioritise AI investments, though they remain less confident about handling environmental and geopolitical risks.
