Madhya Pradesh partners with BHASHINI to expand multilingual-AI in public services

In a step toward more inclusive and accessible digital governance, the Government of Madhya Pradesh has entered into a strategic partnership to bring multilingual and voice-based AI deeper into public service delivery.

The state government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Digital India BHASHINI Division to integrate AI-powered language technologies across its digital platforms. The initiative aims to improve citizen access to government services in multiple Indian languages and strengthen last-mile delivery.

The MoU was signed at the Madhya Pradesh Regional AI Impact Conference 2026, held in Bhopal. The event was organised by the state’s Department of Science and Technology in collaboration with the IndiaAI Mission, bringing together policymakers, startups, industry leaders, academic institutions, and central agencies to discuss responsible and inclusive AI adoption.

During the conference, Mohan Yadav outlined the state’s vision for citizen-centric AI governance. He said Madhya Pradesh will soon roll out a State AI Policy in mission mode, signalling a structured and long-term approach to artificial intelligence. He also stressed that multilingual platforms such as BHASHINI are critical for reaching diverse linguistic communities across the state.

Under the agreement, BHASHINI will support multilingual digital governance by integrating its language technologies, translation APIs, and AI-powered tools into Madhya Pradesh’s digital systems. This will enable citizens to access government services in multiple Indian languages through both text and voice interfaces.

A key focus of the partnership is voice-first AI solutions, which are expected to improve accessibility for rural populations, elderly citizens, and people with limited digital literacy. By reducing language and usability barriers, the initiative aims to make government schemes and information easier to access.

The collaboration also strengthens inclusivity and aligns with BHASHINI’s national mandate of making linguistic diversity a core pillar of Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI). Embedding Indian languages into public platforms ensures that technology-driven governance remains accessible and equitable.

BHASHINI is a national platform under the Digital India programme that provides AI-based language translation and voice services. It supports text-to-text, speech-to-text, text-to-speech, and speech-to-speech translation, enabling multilingual access to digital services across the country.

With this partnership, Madhya Pradesh positions itself as an early mover in deploying multilingual AI for governance, setting the foundation for broader adoption under its upcoming AI policy.
