Apple partners with Google Gemini to power smarter Siri and Apple Intelligence

Apple and Google have announced a long term partnership that will see Google’s Gemini artificial intelligence models and cloud technology support the next phase of Apple Foundation Models. The collaboration will help power new features under the Apple Intelligence suite, including a more advanced and personalised version of Siri that has been in development for some time.

In a joint statement, Apple said it selected Google’s AI tools after careful review, noting that Gemini offered “the most capable foundation” for its next generation models. These Gemini based systems are expected to support a wide range of new AI features across iPhone, iPad, and Mac devices. Users can expect more contextual, personalised, and helpful responses from Siri compared to earlier versions.

The statement also confirmed that the updated and more personalised Siri will begin rolling out later this year. Apple Intelligence will continue to run on Apple devices and through its Private Cloud Compute system.

Reports of Apple working with Google to improve Siri have circulated for months. A previous report said the new Siri would lean on Google’s Gemini model and introduce features such as AI driven web search. Apple is also believed to be paying Google to build a custom version of Gemini that will operate on Apple’s private cloud systems.

Apple previewed its AI plans during its developer event last year, where iOS 18 and the new AI tools were showcased. While several of these features are now available, the upgraded Siri with deeper context awareness and natural language abilities is still awaited.

According to earlier reports, Apple aims to regain momentum in the AI space, with the new Siri expected to play a key role. It is currently planned for an internal release in Spring 2026, with a public rollout likely alongside the iOS 26.4 update. However, the final timeline may change depending on development progress.
