Global home appliance maker Midea has introduced its new Air Horizon M5 air conditioner, featuring HarmonyOS support and a Huawei HiSilicon AI inverter chip.
The Midea M5 AC is designed with a wide wave engine air duct that supports 180-degree 3D airflow and delivers air up to 9 metres. It uses 10 shell-shaped air-expanding louvers to produce a natural wind effect across nearly 150 degrees. The unit also supports Coanda airflow, with top-mounted air delivery for both cooling and heating.
The air conditioner integrates with the open-source HarmonyOS ecosystem, enabling cross-device connectivity. Users can link the AC with smart home systems, vehicles, voice assistants, and central display screens. This allows room pre-conditioning to be activated remotely before arrival.
Powering the system is a HiSilicon AI inverter chip, which Midea claims offers a 700% increase in computing power and faster response times for smart air control. The indoor unit includes several hardware upgrades, such as a 22 mm increase in evaporator length, a 73 mm longer air duct, a fan diameter increased by 7.6 mm, and copper pipe length extended by 2,010 mm.
The M5 AC carries a Level 1 energy efficiency rating and includes a one-button power-saving mode, offering up to 25% better electricity efficiency compared to the previous generation. The model has already received HarmonyOS certification, confirming support for HarmonyOS version 5.0.3.
