OpenAI launches ChatGPT Health with new tools for secure and personalised care conversations

OpenAI has introduced ChatGPT Health, a new dedicated space within ChatGPT designed for healthcare related conversations. The feature was announced on Wednesday and is currently being tested through a pilot programme, with a wider rollout expected in the coming months. It is aimed at users who want a more organised and secure way to discuss medical topics such as test results, doctor appointments, fitness routines, diet plans, and health insurance questions.

In a blog post, the company shared details about the new experience and confirmed that early access is being given to a limited group of users. Interested individuals can join a waitlist, although no global release date has been announced. Users can still ask health related questions in regular chats.

OpenAI said the move comes as more people turn to ChatGPT for health and wellness queries, with hundreds of millions of such questions asked every week. ChatGPT Health creates a separate workspace where health chats, connected apps, and uploaded files are kept apart from regular conversations. This reduces the risk of exposing sensitive data. The space includes added security layers such as encryption and data isolation.

Users will also be able to link electronic medical records and wellness apps like Apple Health, Function, and MyFitnessPal. This allows ChatGPT to provide more relevant responses based on personal health data. The feature can help users understand lab reports, prepare for doctor visits, track sleep or activity patterns, manage diet and exercise, and compare insurance options.

The company clarified that ChatGPT Health is not meant to diagnose conditions or replace medical professionals. Its purpose is to help people better understand their health information.

“ChatGPT Health is another step toward turning ChatGPT into a personal super assistant that can support you with information and tools to achieve your goals across any part of your life,” said Fidji Simo, CEO Applications at OpenAI.

OpenAI also stated that health conversations are encrypted, kept separate from other chats, and not used to train its foundation models. Users will also have access to privacy controls such as chat deletion and multi factor authentication.
