A clearer picture is emerging of what Apple’s first foldable phone could look like as new previews based on industry chatter surface online. The device widely referred to as the iPhone Fold is expected to offer a large screen experience while still fitting into a pocket friendly form when closed.
When unfolded the iPhone Fold is said to feature a display of around 7.6 inches. This would make it smaller than the iPad mini but larger than any iPhone so far. The phone is expected to be short and wide with a book like design and a 4:3 aspect ratio aimed at reading browsing and multitasking. When folded the outer display is expected to measure between 5.3 and 5.5 inches while the inner screen could range from 7.6 to 7.8 inches.
Exact dimensions remain unconfirmed and current visuals are based on a 3D printed mock-up rather than a final product. The model was created using details shared by an independent designer who relied on reports circulating in May. The mock-up shows a 5.49-inch screen when closed and a 7.76-inch screen when open. These figures broadly match most of the circulating estimates and offer a practical sense of how the device may feel in hand.
Thickness is another area where reports vary. The 3D model suggests a thickness of 4.8 mm when unfolded though some claims point to an even slimmer 4.5 mm profile. The hinge design in the preview is only a placeholder as Apple has not revealed its approach. However, reports suggest the company has focused heavily on developing a hinge that makes the crease between the two panels almost invisible. Details about the camera layout also remain unclear at this stage.
