Urban commuters using Mappls will now find public transport options directly integrated into the navigation experience, as the homegrown digital mapping app expands its services.
Mappls, developed by MapMyIndia, has announced the addition of multimodal public transport routes within its app. Users can now access metro, rail, and bus route information, making it easier to plan journeys using public transport alongside private travel options. The company said this update strengthens Mappls’ position as a comprehensive mobility platform by bringing public and private transport experiences together in one place.
With the new feature, commuters can view public transport routes, stations, stops, and interchange options within the app. According to the company, this can help users plan more efficient and sustainable journeys across cities.
The multimodal public transport routes are currently available in select cities, including Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Chandigarh, Pune, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Nagpur, Indore, Patna, Lucknow, Kanpur, Agra, Jaipur, Kochi, and Bhopal.
“The launch of multimodal public transport routes on the Mappls App is a direct outcome of listening to our users. We want the Mappls App to be more inclusive and accessible for every citizen,” Rakesh Verma, Co Founder, Chairman and Managing Director at MapmyIndia Mappls said in a statement.
The company stated that the feature is currently live on the iOS and web versions of Mappls. An Android rollout is planned for the near future. Mappls also said its user base has crossed 40 million, and the expanded public transport support is aimed at improving daily navigation for urban commuters.
The newly introduced public transport routes build on existing Mappls features such as turn by turn navigation, real time traffic updates, safety alerts, and intelligent routing. By highlighting public transport data more clearly, the company hopes to encourage wider use of mass transit, which could help reduce congestion, lower emissions, and support cleaner urban mobility.
In recent months, MapMyIndia has expressed interest in partnering with Perplexity AI and has reiterated its long standing expertise in building maps across urban and rural regions since 1995. Following this rollout, the company said it will continue working with transport authorities and ecosystem partners to expand public transport coverage across more cities.
