Bixby may tap Perplexity AI to handle advanced user questions

Samsung appears to be quietly testing a new AI powered upgrade for its Bixby voice assistant that could improve how it responds to complex questions.

Several users have shared on social media that Bixby now routes certain advanced queries to Perplexity AI. When this happens, a small Perplexity icon appears at the bottom of the response, along with a “sources” label that allows users to view the web references used to generate the answer.

The feature has reportedly been spotted on Galaxy S25 series smartphones running the One UI 8.5 beta update. This is notable because an earlier report suggested the integration would debut with the Galaxy S26 lineup next year.

In a post on X formerly known as Twitter, user @achultra shared a screenshot showing the new behavior and wrote, “Now Bixby can ask Perplexity to answer complicated questions.” The branding and source links were clearly visible in the interface.

At the moment, the feature does not appear to be available to all users. The same post noted that the integration was only seen on a Galaxy S25 device using the One UI 8.5 beta software. A report last month claimed Samsung planned to introduce this capability alongside the Galaxy S26 series. Since the stable version of One UI 8.5 is rumored to launch with those phones, Samsung may be testing the feature ahead of a wider release.

It is still unclear how deeply Perplexity is integrated into Bixby. The setup appears similar to how Apple uses ChatGPT to help Siri answer more complex questions. However, it is not known whether Bixby users will gain access to advanced Perplexity tools such as Deep Research, Labs, or model selection. There is also no confirmation on whether users with Pro or Max subscriptions will be able to link their accounts.

Talk of a Samsung and Perplexity partnership has circulated since the first half of the year. Past reports have suggested the companies were exploring a broader collaboration involving Samsung’s voice assistant. In October, Samsung also launched a standalone Perplexity app for its smart TVs, further signaling growing ties between the two companies.
