Official crime records from the district police show that Tirupati largely maintained law and order in 2025, with only a marginal change in overall crime levels compared to the previous year.
Speaking at a press conference on Sunday, Tirupati SP L Subbarayudu said a total of 9,253 cases were registered in 2025, compared to 9,118 cases in 2024. This reflects an increase of less than 1 percent. Cases related to bodily offences declined by 6 percent, with 1,029 cases recorded in 2025 against 1,095 cases in 2024. In contrast, property related crimes saw a rise of 5.4 percent, increasing from 1,052 cases last year to 1,109 cases this year.
A key highlight from the data was a significant drop in cybercrime. The district recorded a 22 percent decline in cybercrime cases in 2025, with 186 cases reported compared to 241 cases in 2024. However, the financial impact of cyber fraud increased. Losses due to cybercrime rose from Rs 12.31 crore in 2024 to Rs 14.45 crore in 2025. At the same time, recoveries improved from Rs 2.3 crore last year to Rs 3.53 crore this year.
The district also reported a reduction in fatal road accidents. In 2025, Tirupati recorded 474 fatal accidents, resulting in 513 deaths and 1,384 injuries. In comparison, 2024 saw 497 fatal accidents, with 541 deaths and 1,303 people injured. The SP said targeted enforcement and awareness drives played a role in reducing road fatalities.
“The ‘No helmet, no petrol’ drive is being implemented in the district. About 48 black spots have been identified on 7 national highways and 13 state highways, and adequate measures have been taken to prevent road mishaps at these spots,” Subbarayudu said.
The police also continued strict action against ganja smuggling. In 2025, around 68 NDPS cases were registered, leading to the arrest of 179 persons. Authorities seized 762 kg of ganja during these operations, reinforcing the district’s zero tolerance approach toward narcotics related offences.
