Developers using popular AI coding tools are getting temporary access to higher usage limits as part of year end promotions from leading AI companies.
OpenAI and Anthropic have announced limited period increases in usage limits for select users of their AI coding platforms. OpenAI has reset and raised rate limits for Codex users to 2 times the usual level until January 1, 2026. At the same time, Anthropic has rolled out a holiday promotion that offers double usage limits to Pro and Max subscribers on Claude between December 25 and 31.
The OpenAI update was shared on the social media platform X by Thibault Sottiaux, Member of Technical Staff at OpenAI. He said, “For Codex users, to thank you all for the fun we’ve had over the last months, our first gift is that we have reset rate limits and are lifting the usage limits to 2X the usual limits until the 1st of Jan.”
Codex is OpenAI’s specialised AI agent designed for coding tasks. It supports end to end software development using text prompts or images that describe the core idea of an application. Codex can be accessed through a command line interface, within ChatGPT, and as an integrated development environment using tools such as Visual Studio Code and Cursor.
Anthropic also announced its offer through an official post on the same platform. The company stated, “Starting at midnight PT tonight, all Pro and Max plans have 2x their usual usage limits through New Year’s Eve.” Additional details of the promotion have been published on its support page.
The Claude promotion applies only to individual subscribers. Team and Enterprise plans are excluded. Both existing subscribers and new users who sign up for Pro or Max plans during the offer period are eligible for the increased limits. Once the promotion ends, usage limits will return to standard levels for each plan.
These announcements come as AI platforms continue to refine how usage caps and metering work across paid tiers. The temporary increases are aimed at developers, professionals, and heavy users who often reach existing limits during periods of high workload.
