New tools are emerging on YouTube that could change how creators engage with their audiences. The platform is reportedly allowing users to create simple games using artificial intelligence through a new feature called YouTube Playables Builder.
According to a report by a technology publication, the tool is powered by Google’s Gemini 3 AI model and lets creators build games without any coding skills. The feature builds on YouTube Playables, which was first announced in 2023 as a collection of lightweight games that can be played directly on the platform. With the new builder, creators can design short interactive experiences and easily share them with viewers.
The Playables Builder is currently in beta. YouTube is said to be running a pilot programme through a Trusted Tester opt in form, where creators can submit their channel details to request access. At present, the feature is available only in select markets.
As part of the initiative, YouTube is encouraging creators to develop short and fun games that can be completed in minutes. These games are designed to work on both the YouTube mobile apps and the web, allowing viewers to play instantly without downloading additional software.
At the core of the Playables Builder is the Gemini 3 AI model. Creators can generate games using text prompts instead of writing code. A user begins by describing the game idea, characters, or gameplay in simple text. Gemini 3 then converts this description into working game logic.
Creators also have the option to upload an image to guide the visual style, theme, or overall look of the game. In addition, they can upload a video or paste a video link. This helps the AI understand movement, mechanics, or visual tone, which can influence how the game behaves.
The report added that the Playables Builder is a web based application, so there is no need to install any software. YouTube has already shared early examples created with the tool. These include Sugar Cube by @AyChristene, Xeno Rancher Endless by @bilawal, and Study Zone by @goharsguide.
YouTube Playables itself is a built in feature that offers free instant play mini games within the platform. Users can find these games in a dedicated section on the homepage. The feature was introduced as an experiment in 2023 and was later expanded to more users.
