A new update is giving iPhone users better clarity on devices connected to their WhatsApp account. WhatsApp has started rolling out a feature on iOS that improves visibility into automatically connected devices, helping users better understand how their account is being accessed.
The feature is being introduced through the TestFlight beta programme with version 25.37.10.71. It adds a dedicated section to track certain devices that connect without manual approval. While the rollout is currently limited, early signs indicate that WhatsApp is also testing it with a wider set of users, including some on the stable App Store version.
According to a feature tracker, the update introduces a new Peripherals list within the existing Linked devices menu. This list shows devices that connect automatically to a WhatsApp account without needing a QR code scan or a 6 digit verification code. These connections happen in the background and are designed for supported devices that rely on seamless pairing instead of manual setup.
The feature tracker noted that the Peripherals list is available to some iOS beta testers using version 25.37.10.71. In addition, a staff member from a technology publication was able to view the same list on the latest stable version of WhatsApp for iOS. This suggests the feature is being tested beyond the beta channel as part of a gradual rollout.
Currently, the Apple Watch is the only supported peripheral. When connected, it appears in the list with details such as the device name and the last active time. This permanent indicator confirms that the Apple Watch is linked to the WhatsApp account and helps users verify that messages and notifications are syncing correctly between the iPhone and the watch.
Unlike regular linked devices, peripherals cannot be disconnected directly from WhatsApp settings. To remove a peripheral, users must uninstall the related app from the device itself. Once removed, message synchronisation stops and the peripheral is automatically cleared from the device list.
By displaying peripherals alongside linked devices, WhatsApp aims to improve transparency and account awareness. This update is expected to help users identify connected devices, notice unexpected access, and reduce confusion around message delivery and notification syncing.
