Ahmedabad teen earns global junior scientist honours and NASA launch invite

An exceptional academic milestone has put a young student from Ahmedabad in the global spotlight within a short span of time.

Mahi Bhatt, a 14-year-old student from Vastral, has earned more than 50 Junior Scientist certifications in just 6 months. She is currently a Class 9 student at Sharadaba Education Campus and has cleared multiple junior scientist examinations conducted by leading international space agencies.

Her certifications come from prestigious organisations including ISRO, NASA, the European Space Agency, the Australian Space Agency and the UAE Space Agency. Together, these institutions represent some of the world’s most advanced space research bodies.

Beyond space science, Mahi has also secured international-level certifications from global organisations such as the United Nations, UNICEF and UNESCO. These achievements reflect her broader academic engagement beyond space related studies.

Speaking about her journey, Mahi said, “In the past six months, I have cleared multiple exams conducted by ISRO, NASA, the European Space Agency, the Australian Space Agency, and the UAE Space Agency, which represents the entire Gulf region. In addition, I have cleared three more international-level exams conducted by the UN, UNICEF, and UNESCO.”

Her performance in NASA’s STEM Junior Scientist programme has led to another major recognition. Mahi has received a special invitation to attend a rocket launch event scheduled for 2026 at NASA’s headquarters in the United States. This opportunity is extended to only a limited number of young participants from across the world.

Highlighting the importance of the invitation, her father Hemang Bhatt said, “For one of NASA’s future rocket launch programs, we have already received a virtual passport and boarding pass. Once the schedule is finalised, we will be invited to participate. This will also be a proud moment for India.”

Mahi’s achievements at such a young age underline her strong interest in science and global learning platforms. Her growing list of recognitions continues to draw attention to the potential of young Indian students on the international stage.
