Theodore Tanner Jr. joins Leidos as Chief Technology Officer

A leadership transition is underway at Leidos as the company strengthens its focus on advanced technologies and long term growth.

Leidos announced the appointment of Theodore “Ted” Tanner Jr. as its new Chief Technology Officer, effective 01 January. He succeeds Jim Carlini, who has served in the role since 2019.

In his new position, Tanner will lead technology strategy and innovation across artificial intelligence, mission critical software, cybersecurity and quantum technologies. The company said the move aligns with its NorthStar 2030 growth priorities.

Leidos Chief Executive Officer Tom Bell described Tanner as a results driven leader with deep technical expertise.
“His track record of delivering bold, disruptive tech to defense, government and healthcare customers is a great fit with our capabilities and NorthStar 2030 growth priorities,” Bell said.

Tanner brings more than 30 years of experience in artificial intelligence and enterprise technology leadership. He joins Leidos from BigBear.ai, where he served as Chief Technology Officer for nearly 2 years. During his tenure, he led the delivery of advanced AI and machine learning solutions, including decision intelligence, manned and unmanned teaming, logistics optimization and real time situational awareness for the Department of War, the CIA, the Defense Intelligence Agency and other organizations.

Before that, Tanner held several senior leadership roles across major technology and healthcare companies. His past positions include Chief Administrative Officer at Merative, Global Chief Technology Officer and Chief Architect at IBM Watson Health, and co founder and Chief Technology Officer at PokitDok.

He has also held senior technology leadership roles at Benefitfocus, BeliefNetworks, Microsoft and Apple. Earlier in his career, he served as Chief Technology Officer at Spatializer Audio Labs and worked in engineering roles at National Semiconductor Corp., Crystal River Engineering and Digidesign.

Tanner currently serves on the scientific advisory board of Quiver Bioscience.

The appointment signals Leidos’ continued push to expand its technology capabilities across government, defense and healthcare sectors as demand for advanced digital solutions grows.
