Robin Colwell joins Intel as head of government affairs

Intel has announced several senior leadership changes, strengthening its government relations and executive team amid ongoing transitions.

The chipmaker said it has appointed Robin Colwell as the new head of its government affairs office. Colwell currently serves as deputy assistant to the U.S. President and deputy director of the National Economic Council. Her appointment comes months after the U.S. government acquired a 10% stake in Intel. The role had remained vacant since Bruce Andrews exited the company following the U.S. elections in November.

In another key move, Intel named James Chew as vice president of Intel Government Technologies. The unit manages Intel’s business with the U.S. government. Chew joins after the departure of longtime Intel executive Christopher George earlier this year. He previously worked at Cadence Design Systems, where Intel CEO Lip Bu Tan served as chief executive.

It also announced the appointment of Annie Shea Weckesser as chief marketing and communications officer. Weckesser is a former Cisco Systems executive and most recently worked at SambaNova Systems, a chip startup backed by Tan through his venture capital investments.

As part of the leadership updates, Pushkar Ranade, chief of staff to the CEO, has been named interim chief technology officer. The position became vacant after it’s former technology chief Sachin Katti left the company last month to join the ChatGPT creator OpenAI.

The appointments reflect a broader leadership realignment at Intel as the company navigates government partnerships, technology strategy and executive transitions.
