Amazon introduces colour Kindle Scribe with AI powered notebook features

Amazon has unveiled a refreshed range of its digital writing devices, led by the launch of the Kindle Scribe Colorsoft, its first colour e reader with an AI powered notebook. Alongside it, the company also introduced next generation versions of the standard Kindle Scribe.

The announcement was made by Panos Panay, senior vice president of devices and services, who highlighted Amazon’s growing focus on productivity and artificial intelligence. “The first-ever Kindle Scribe Colorsoft is out now. Lightening fast, paper-like color, smarter AI. Big step forward,” he said in a post on X.

Amazon CEO Andy Jassy also shared details about the new device. “The company’s first ever colour Kindle Scribe is here” and “customers are going to really like it.” He added, “We completely redesigned it from the ground up, and it’s now ultra-thin, writing and sketching feels like it’s happening on paper, and moving between pages is almost instantaneous. The AI we’ve baked in (featuring our Nova models) is especially useful, helping people find their notes, create note summaries, and ask questions of their notes. Think this is gonna change how folks work,” he said in a post on X.

Both the Kindle Scribe and Kindle Scribe Colorsoft are available now. The Kindle Scribe starts at $499.99, while the Kindle Scribe Colorsoft is priced from $629.99. A Kindle Scribe version without a front light is planned for release in 2026, starting at $429.99. The full range will reach the UK and Germany next year.

The Kindle Scribe Colorsoft features an 11 inch glare free display designed to match the size of a sheet of paper. Amazon has used a custom Colorsoft display with a colour filter, light guide, and nitride LEDs to ensure soft colours without the harshness of LCD screens. Users can write, draw, and annotate using 10 pen colours and 5 highlighter colours.

Amazon says writing and page turns are now 40 percent faster, powered by a new quad core chip and updated Oxide display technology.

The devices also bring new AI driven productivity tools. Users can search notes across notebooks, get instant AI summaries, and ask follow up questions. Support for Google Drive and Microsoft OneDrive is included, with options to export notes as text or images to OneNote. Early next year, users will also be able to send notes to Alexa Plus for interactive conversations.
