Sony launches Alpha 7 V globally and in India with new 33MP sensor and advanced video features

Sony has introduced the ILCE 7V, the fifth generation model in its Alpha 7 full frame mirrorless camera lineup. The new camera is powered by a partially stacked 33 megapixel Exmor RS CMOS sensor and the upgraded BIONZ XR2 image processor, which now includes the AI unit used in Sony’s latest flagship models. These enhancements bring improvements to autofocus, tracking, colour accuracy, still image quality and video output.

Alongside the camera, Sony has also announced the FE 28 to 70 mm F3.5 to 5.6 OSS II lens. This compact standard zoom lens is designed to support the high speed shooting capabilities of the ILCE 7V.

The Alpha 7 V uses its AI processing unit to deliver faster and more precise autofocus. Sony claims that Real time Recognition AF is up to thirty percent better and can identify subjects more quickly. The camera features 759 phase detection points covering up to ninety four percent of the frame and maintains focus even in low light down to EV minus 4. Real time Tracking is improved for both photos and videos, and high resolution RAW processing is supported through the Imaging Edge Desktop application.

The partially stacked sensor offers a readout speed that is about four and a half times faster than previous models. This reduces distortion and allows blackout free continuous shooting at up to thirty frames per second. The system performs up to sixty AF and AE calculations per second and can capture 14 bit RAW images at the same speed with full tracking. A Pre Capture mode can record up to one second before the shutter is pressed.

The ILCE 7V delivers up to sixteen stops of dynamic range and features AI based Auto White Balance for more accurate colour across lighting conditions. For video creators, the camera offers 7K oversampled 4K 60p recording in full frame mode and 4K 120p recording in APS C mode. Full pixel readout without pixel binning ensures sharper detail and Dynamic Active Mode provides smoother handheld footage. Auto Framing, improved noise reduction and better microphones enhance video production.

Sony has improved power efficiency with a Monitor Low Bright mode and better thermal management for extended 4K recording. The camera is rated for about 630 shots using the viewfinder under standard testing conditions.

The FE 28 to 70 mm OSS II lens supports up to 120 frames per second AF and AE tracking and includes coordinated stabilisation, smooth AF during zooming and breathing compensation with compatible bodies.

Both the ILCE 7V and the new lens follow Sony’s Road to Zero environmental program, using renewable energy in production and sustainable packaging materials.

The ILCE 7V body will be available in India from 10 December 2025 at Rs 2,55,990. The ILCE 7V M Kit, including the OSS II lens, will arrive in February 2026 at Rs 2,70,490. Globally, the camera is open for preorder at around 2,900 dollars and will reach wider retail availability by mid December.
