PhonePe has announced a new partnership between its Indus Appstore and Motorola India. With this agreement, the Indian app marketplace will now be available on all Motorola smartphones and tablets in the country. The move expands the reach of the Indus Appstore and gives Android users more choice when downloading and installing apps. Neither company disclosed any financial details about the partnership. The appstore is also available on Xiaomi and Lava smartphones in India.
Partnership details
PhonePe said in a press release that the partnership will support wider distribution of the Indus Appstore. It will also allow Motorola users to experience a personalised app discovery experience through the platform.
“We are delighted to partner with Motorola to offer an extended set of Indians seamless access to the Indus Appstore experience. The app store, that truly embodies the Made for India spirit, is looking at an inflection point to revolutionise the Indian app economy,” said Priya M Narasimhan, Chief Business Officer, Indus Appstore.
This is not the first time the app marketplace has partnered with a smartphone brand. It has earlier entered similar arrangements with Xiaomi India and Lava, where the Indus Appstore comes preinstalled. While the company says it is the default marketplace, staff at a technology publication did not see it as the default on Xiaomi devices.
Indus Appstore features and availability
Launched on February 21 2024, the Indus Appstore offers several features, including a personalised in app experience, AI powered voice search, and support for English and twelve Indian languages such as Hindi, Malayalam, Marathi and Tamil.
The platform has more than five lakh apps. These include Flipkart, Ixigo, Domino’s Pizza, Snapdeal, JioMart, Bajaj Finserv and others. The company also states that every app listed on the marketplace is tested for malware and security risks.
“By integrating this homegrown platform, we are offering an innovative app discovery medium that enriches our users experience that is culturally relevant,” said TM Narasimhan, Managing Director, Motorola Mobility India.
