UIDAI has rolled out an important update to the Aadhaar mobile app with a new feature called Selective Share. The update aims to give users more control over the personal details they reveal during identity verification, especially at places like hotels, offices and residential buildings where unnecessary data sharing has been a concern.
Selective Share lets users choose specific fields they want to share instead of showing their entire Aadhaar profile. A usual Aadhaar ID includes the Aadhaar number, date of birth, address and other sensitive details. With the new option, users can share only what is required. For instance, if a hotel needs only a name and photo, the app allows users to display just those two details. The app then creates a secure QR code or a digital credential that contains only the selected information. This helps prevent misuse and restricts organisations from gathering more data than necessary.
The update also brings several other improvements designed to increase convenience and security. The app now supports multiple profiles, allowing up to five Aadhaar accounts on one device, which is helpful for families that rely on a single smartphone. After OTP verification, users can sign in through face authentication or device biometrics. Aadhaar details can be viewed offline once the profile is set up, which is useful in low network areas. An activity log helps track where and when Aadhaar information was shared. Users can also create QR codes with full or masked details based on their preference.
Setting up the updated app remains straightforward. After downloading it from the official app store, users sign in using their Aadhaar number, complete OTP authentication and finish biometric verification. A PIN or device lock can be added for extra protection. Additional profiles can be added if they are linked to the same registered mobile number.
The Selective Share feature marks a shift in how Aadhaar functions as a digital identity tool. By allowing users to control exactly which details are visible, the update improves privacy while keeping verification simple. Whether it is for check ins or routine digital authentication, users can now share only the information they feel is necessary.
