The Cyberabad Cybercrime officials have arrested 21 individuals in a week-long operation carried out from November 19 to 25, solving 10 major cases involving fraud networks operating across several States.
According to officials, 13 of the arrested suspects were involved in trade frauds, while seven were linked to digital arrest frauds. Through these arrests, the police were able to secure 165 refund orders across 49 cases, enabling the return of Rs 89.7 lakh to victims.
One of the most significant cases in the operation involved the rescue of a retired elderly citizen who had been cheated of Rs 70 lakh through a sophisticated digital arrest fraud. Fraudsters contacted the victim through WhatsApp video calls while pretending to be officials from the Delhi Police and the Central Bureau of Investigation. They threatened him with false allegations, isolated him from his family, and coerced him into transferring his savings under the claim of completing an Reserve Bank of India verification.
Officials noted that these scams relied on intimidation and psychological pressure, with fraudsters using official-sounding threats to force victims into compliance.
The Cyberabad Police said that they would continue to intensify their efforts against cybercrime networks and urged the public to remain cautious of calls or messages that demand personal information, money transfers, or confidentiality.
