UK based SCI Semiconductors expresses interest in setting up GCC in Bengaluru, says Minister MB Patil

UK based SCI Semiconductors has shown interest in establishing its Global Capability Centre in Bengaluru. The state government has assured full support for the company’s planned investment and future collaboration. Industries Minister MB Patil said this move is expected to enable local production of hardware secured microprocessors that are important for computer security applications.

The minister is on an official visit to the UK. During the visit, he held separate meetings with senior leaders from SCI Semiconductors, Weir Group, Latos Data Centre, Samco Holdings and ARM Semiconductors to explore investment and expansion opportunities.

Patil said that ARM Semiconductors has its second largest global office in Bengaluru. It is part of the Austin Bengaluru California network. The company is looking to increase collaboration across its global centres and is interested in opening another office in Bengaluru.

Samco Holdings has expressed interest in investing in renewable energy, ethanol production and battery manufacturing in Karnataka. Latos Data Centre has also shown interest in setting up an Al incubation centre in Bengaluru.

Patil said the delegation explained that these sectors are being given high priority under the upcoming KWIN City project. The companies were also informed about the opportunities for data centres related to renewable energy and infrastructure development in the state.

Weir Group, known for its work in the mining, minerals and industrial sectors, already operates a manufacturing unit near Bengaluru. It is now exploring further expansion. Patil assured that the state government will provide support as per Karnataka’s new industrial policy.

Those who took part in the discussions included Hayden Povey, CEO of SCI Semiconductors, Jack O Brien, head of Weir Group, Mike Carlin, Ram Shankar and Harinder Dhaliwal from Latos, Sampath Kumar Mallya, Ashwin Sampathkumar and Vaidyanathan Nateshan from Samco Holdings, and Peter Stephens from ARM Semiconductors.

The Karnataka government delegation includes Selvakumar who is Principal Secretary in the Department of Industries, Gunjan Krishna who is Commissioner for Industries, and Doddabasavaraju who is Managing Director of Karnataka Udyog Mitra.
