India strengthens its role as a leading hub for emerging enterprise GCCs

India is rapidly strengthening its position as the preferred destination for global capability centres among emerging enterprises. The Emerging Enterprises GCCs in India report shows that mid market companies with annual revenues of up to two billion dollars are now adopting the GCC model to scale faster and unlock more value. As of September, more than six hundred and ten of these companies have set up GCCs in India. Together, they employ over four hundred and sixty two thousand professionals. This number is expected to rise to more than nine hundred and fifty by 2030, highlighting India’s growing role as a global capability hub.

The landscape is no longer led only by Fortune 500 organisations. Mid sized companies are now building their presence with a focus on agility and strong digital capabilities. Vikram Ahuja, co founder of ANSR, which published the report with a research partner, said, “These enterprises are distinct in their approach. They build lean, high impact centres focused on digital engineering, data, AI, and core product capabilities, enabling them to drive global outcomes with agility. Unlike traditional large scale GCCs, their focus is not on size but on capability creation, differentiation, and time to value.”

A clear shift toward decentralisation is also visible. Cities such as Ahmedabad, Coimbatore and Vizag have emerged as new GCC locations. These non metro regions now account for fourteen percent of all GCCs and offer strong talent pools for digital and product engineering roles at competitive costs.

Technology and software companies continue to lead the growth and make up fifty six percent of all GCC expansions in the emerging enterprise segment. Other sectors, including manufacturing, telecom, media and BFSI, are also expanding their presence.

Private equity backed companies are driving much of this momentum. They account for sixty four percent of new GCC setups, shaping a new model of capability led value creation. North American and European companies remain the largest contributors. Over the past two decades, organisations from the United States and Canada have built a strong base in India by tapping into a skilled talent pool and a mature digital ecosystem. They now operate four hundred and forty eight GCCs in the country, which is seventy three percent of the total, followed by one hundred and fourteen centres from Europe.
