Google working on new features to merge Gemini and NotebookLM workflows

Google is reportedly working on new features that will make its Gemini chatbot and NotebookLM learning platform work more closely together. A recent publication found signs of this update inside the code of the Gemini app. The report says Google may add a NotebookLM button within the app and allow users to attach their notebooks directly. This would let users use Gemini’s full set of tools to refine and improve their NotebookLM content. The move comes shortly after Google added Nano Banana to NotebookLM.

According to the report, Google is developing a feature that will allow users to move information between Gemini and NotebookLM with ease. The publication discovered this while examining the latest code changes in the Gemini app. The feature is still under development and is not available to beta testers.

With this update, users may be able to send an entire chatbot conversation into NotebookLM as a source without manually copying it. The report also found another piece of code that suggests users will be able to import any NotebookLM notebook into Gemini as an attachment. While the purpose of this feature is not confirmed, it is expected that users will be able to use advanced tools such as Canvas, Nano Banana Pro, Veo 3 and app connectors to improve their notebooks.

These features have not been officially confirmed by Google. Finding such code does not guarantee that the tools will be released to the public, as some features are often dropped during development.

In recent months, Google has been rapidly expanding NotebookLM’s capabilities. The platform now includes Nano Banana, Veo 3 Fast powered Video Overviews, Audio Overviews in different languages and styles and support for the Deep Research tool.
