Indian students in the UK unite to launch national employability council amid rising job concerns

Indian students in the United Kingdom have come together to address growing challenges in job placements by forming a new national body dedicated to their career success. The Indian National Students Association UK has partnered with an AI powered career platform to launch the Indian National Students Employability Council. The initiative was announced at the India UK Student Leadership Summit held at the UK Parliament and aims to support the more than one lakh sixty six thousand Indian students currently studying across the country.

According to inputs shared with a news agency, the new council is being positioned as the first national organisation focused entirely on improving the professional prospects of Indian students in Britain. Its founders believe students now need concrete solutions rather than more panel discussions. The CEO of the career platform noted that more than thirty six panels have discussed international student issues in the past eighteen months, yet progress on actual outcomes remains limited.

As part of its first programmes, the council plans to run a National Career Roadshow across major universities including the London School of Economics, University College London and King’s College London. The effort will bring mentorship, employer engagement and targeted career support directly to campuses. The council will also launch a nationwide study on Indian student outcomes early next year to analyse job placements, salary trends, employer responses and sponsorship rates. The findings will guide a National Advisory Board that will ensure policymakers, universities and employers hear directly from student representatives.

A major concern driving the initiative is the lack of responses Indian graduates receive from employers. The national president of the student association highlighted that many students question the value of a UK education when job applications often receive no replies at all. This frustration persists despite the Graduate Route visa, which allows international graduates to work in the UK for up to eighteen months. Many students say they are rejected immediately or hear nothing from employers, raising concerns about potential bias in hiring.

The student association is already engaging with the High Commission of India and the UK’s foreign affairs office to encourage the government to educate employers about the Graduate Route and ensure fair treatment. The summit also stressed the importance of community representation. A labour MP encouraged students to stay connected to avoid misrepresentation, while senior leaders urged them to volunteer and participate in local networks to strengthen their visibility.

For many Indian students, studying in the UK is tied to global career ambitions. The new council aims to close the gap between their qualifications and the opportunities they receive by combining research, advocacy and direct employer engagement to push for meaningful change.
