Spotify has introduced a new feature that allows users to transfer playlists from other streaming platforms directly into their Spotify libraries. The company announced the update on Thursday through an integration with TuneMyMusic, a tool that moves playlists between different music services. The feature is now rolling out to all Spotify users.
Users can access the option through the Your Library section in the Spotify mobile app. By scrolling to the bottom of the page and tapping Import your music, they can connect to TuneMyMusic and choose the service from which they want to bring their playlists. The playlists are then copied to Spotify without deleting them from the original platform.
At launch, TuneMyMusic supports playlist transfers from Amazon Music, Apple Music, Deezer, Pandora, SoundCloud, Tidal, YouTube Music and several other services. Spotify said the new feature strengthens data portability and adds convenience for people who want to switch streaming services.
This update also increases competition in the streaming market. Apple Music already allows iPhone, iPad and Android users to move playlists from other platforms into their Apple Music library through built in tools. YouTube Music Premium users also have the ability to import playlists from different services, including Spotify.
For people considering a switch to Spotify, the built in transfer option may make the transition smoother. It also gives users additional value since the online version of TuneMyMusic only allows free transfers of up to five hundred tracks. Unlimited transfers require a paid upgrade.
Spotify has not disclosed the terms of its arrangement with TuneMyMusic. However, analysts believe the partnership benefits both companies. Spotify gains a feature that could attract more subscribers, while TuneMyMusic gains a major partner and wider reach.
