Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas Govt. of India welcomes Neeraj Mittal as their new Secretary

Neeraj Mittal has been appointed as the new Secretary of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Government of India. He brings wide leadership experience from his recent role as Secretary at the Department of Telecommunications. A 1992 batch IAS officer from the Tamil Nadu cadre, he takes charge following an administrative reshuffle and succeeds Pankaj Jain.

Over the years, he has served in several key roles, including Principal Secretary for Information Technology under the Government of Tamil Nadu, CMD of TUFIDCO, and MD and CEO of Guidance Tamil Nadu. In these roles, he led major investment and industrial facilitation programmes. His earlier experience as Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas adds to his strong understanding of the sector and its national priorities.

Neeraj Mittal has also served as Senior Advisor at a global development institution, where he contributed to large development strategies. His work has focused on digital transformation, governance, and policy driven impact. He is an alumnus of IIT Kanpur with an academic background in electrical engineering. He is known for his structured and data based approach to administration and public policy.

His appointment is expected to support the Ministry in advancing its strategic programmes, strengthening the national energy ecosystem, and contributing to India’s long term economic and sustainability goals.
