Zoox expands robotaxi services to Austin and Miami in US growth push

In a significant step toward scaling autonomous mobility, Zoox is extending its robotaxi operations to Austin and Miami as part of its broader expansion across the United States.

The company has been testing its autonomous vehicles in both cities for nearly 2 years. It now plans to launch rides through an early rider program later this year. Initially, access will be limited to select users, including employees, their families, and invited participants, before opening to the public.

This phased rollout follows Zoox’s earlier strategy in cities like San Francisco and Las Vegas, where it has already introduced services and expanded operations. The approach allows the company to refine its technology in real-world conditions before scaling further.

Zoox operates a purpose-built, fully autonomous vehicle that does not include a steering wheel or pedals. Instead, it focuses on a rider-first design tailored for comfort and safety.

The expansion also highlights rising competition in the robotaxi segment. Companies such as Waymo and Tesla are actively increasing their presence across major US cities.

By entering Austin and Miami, Zoox is targeting key urban markets that are expected to play a major role in the future of autonomous transportation.

With millions of autonomous miles already completed and hundreds of thousands of riders served, Zoox is gradually moving from testing to early commercial operations. The rollout in these cities is expected to support its next phase of growth in the autonomous ride-hailing space.
