Zoom introduces real-time voice translation and deepfake detection for meetings

As artificial intelligence continues to transform digital collaboration, Zoom has introduced new AI-powered features aimed at improving communication and security in virtual meetings. The company announced on March 10 that it is rolling out real-time voice translation and deepfake detection capabilities for its meeting platform.

The real-time translation feature in Zoom Meetings allows participants to speak in their native language while others on the call can hear the translated version instantly in their preferred language. The feature currently supports 5 languages, with more languages expected to be added in the future.

Zoom first gained global recognition during the COVID-19 pandemic, when remote work and virtual collaboration became widely adopted. Since then, the company has expanded beyond video conferencing by introducing AI-powered productivity and customer engagement tools for businesses.

To differentiate itself in the competitive AI landscape, Zoom has adopted a federated AI strategy. This approach dynamically selects models from multiple providers, including Zoom’s own AI systems as well as models from OpenAI, Anthropic, and Meta, enabling the platform to deliver cost-effective AI capabilities.

Alongside translation, Zoom has also introduced an on-call deepfake risk detection feature. The tool is designed to identify synthetic audio or video during meetings. This capability is expected to help protect users from scams such as “digital arrest” fraud, where criminals use manipulated video calls to deceive victims.

“The next phase of enterprise AI will be defined by the ability to move from conversation to action. Zoom’s agentic AI platform is designed to orchestrate action across systems, turning every meeting, call, and customer interaction into a trigger for workflow automation,” said Velchamy Sankarlingam, President of Product & Engineering at Zoom.

The company also unveiled a new set of AI-powered office applications, including AI Docs, Slides and Sheets. These tools can generate documents, spreadsheets and presentations using meeting transcripts and enterprise data.

Zoom confirmed that its AI avatars, introduced last year, will begin rolling out later this month. The feature allows users to create photo-realistic AI avatars that can appear in meetings on their behalf.

Additionally, Zoom AI Companion 3.0 will soon be available through a desktop application. The AI assistant is being integrated across Zoom Workplace, Zoom Business Services and Workvivo.

AI Companion 3.0 can also connect with third-party platforms such as Slack, ServiceNow, Box, Google Drive and OneDrive. This integration enables the assistant to analyse enterprise data from multiple sources and deliver insights.

As AI agents gain popularity, Zoom is also allowing users to create and deploy custom or pre-built AI agents using no-code natural language prompts. These agents can automate workflows across external systems such as Salesforce, Slack and ServiceNow.

For developers, the company announced a new set of enterprise-grade AI APIs. These tools allow developers to build applications using Zoom’s technologies for transcription, translation, summarisation, deep reasoning and image processing.

In Zoom Phone, the company is introducing agentic workflows that can automatically perform tasks such as drafting emails or sending summaries. Zoom is also adding new SMS features for its 24/7 virtual receptionist to manage customer interactions through text, answer queries, collect information, assist with scheduling and escalate cases to human agents when required.
