Zomato to Launch Blinkit Foods to Compete with Zepto Cafe

Eternal Ltd., the parent company of Zomato and Blinkit, has announced plans to launch a new food service subsidiary named Blinkit Foods Ltd. This new entity will be a wholly owned subsidiary with a total paid-up capital of Rs 10 lakh.

According to a stock exchange filing on Monday, Blinkit Foods will focus on food services, including innovation, preparation, sourcing, sale, and delivery of food to customers. Eternal confirmed, “Blinkit Foods is proposed to be incorporated as a wholly owned subsidiary and would, inter alia, engage in the business of providing food services including innovation, preparation, sourcing, sale and delivery of food to customers.”

While further details about Blinkit Foods’ exact offerings are yet to be revealed, the move appears to be a direct response to the growing competition from Zepto Cafe. The new business may also strengthen Blinkit’s existing quick commerce operations, particularly its 10-minute food delivery service known as Bistro. This service is currently active in Bengaluru and Delhi NCR through 38 cloud kitchens and is in the process of expanding to more locations.

The introduction of Blinkit Foods is expected to enhance Eternal’s presence in the fast-growing instant food delivery market by tapping into consumer demand for speed, convenience, and quality. With this launch, the company aims to further integrate its food and quick commerce ecosystem, taking on newer formats and services to stay competitive.
