Zoho has taken another step toward expanding its advanced technology capabilities with the acquisition of Asimov Robotics.
The acquisition is part of Zoho’s broader effort to strengthen research and development in robotics and other advanced technologies. While the financial terms were not disclosed, the move highlights Zoho’s intent to build long term deeptech expertise alongside its core SaaS offerings.
Founded in 2012, Asimov Robotics develops robotic solutions designed to handle hazardous, repetitive, and operationally inefficient industrial tasks. The startup has been supported by the Kerala Startup Mission and is known for applied robotics research focused on real world industrial use cases. Following the acquisition, Asimov Robotics employees will continue their research and development work under Zoho’s guidance, ensuring continuity while gaining access to the scale and resources of a larger technology company.
The deal aligns with Zoho’s growing deeptech strategy and its increasing engagement with the Kerala innovation ecosystem. Along with the acquisition, Zoho has announced a partnership with the Kerala Startup Mission to set up a deeptech product studio. The initiative aims to bring together startups, researchers, and institutions working on frontier technologies to support long term collaboration and innovation.
Through this deeptech studio, Zoho is working with partners including Boson Motors, Vipus Advanced Materials, vTitan, Zentron Labs, Verdant Telemetry, Netrasemi, Genrobotics, Energy 24by7, and IIT Bombay. The focus areas include artificial intelligence, robotics, and large language model development, with special attention on building language models for Indian languages. This reflects Zoho’s goal of developing foundational technologies that are globally relevant and locally rooted.
The Asimov Robotics acquisition is Zoho’s second major move in the robotics space. In May 2022, the company invested 20 crore for a stake in Genrobotics, reinforcing its view of robotics as a key pillar of future technology infrastructure. Internally, this direction was further strengthened when cofounder Sridhar Vembu moved from CEO to Chief Scientist to focus fully on research and deeptech initiatives.
The announcement coincided with the opening of Zoho’s Kottarakkara office in Kerala, which is expected to act as a hub for robotics and deeptech research projects. Together, these developments signal Zoho’s long term commitment to advancing AI, robotics, and deeptech through sustained investment and ecosystem collaboration.
