In a move to enhance user experience, YouTube is experimenting with new features aimed at making video consumption faster and more convenient for Premium subscribers. The platform is currently testing an Auto Speed mode and a simplified On-the-go interface as part of its experimental features program.
The Auto Speed feature is designed to automatically adjust playback speed while a video is playing. This helps users save time without affecting content clarity. The feature appears in the experimental section of the app but may not be available for all videos, devices, or regions, as it remains under testing.
Alongside this, YouTube is also trialling the On-the-go mode, which focuses on improving usability during movement. This feature is particularly suited for audio-based content like podcasts and talk shows. It reduces visual clutter and offers easier playback controls, making it more practical for users who are walking or commuting.
Users can enable On-the-go mode manually through the settings menu under Premium controls. Additionally, the app may automatically suggest this mode when it detects that the device has been in motion for around 60 seconds during playback.
While the feature description mentions availability on Android devices, reports suggest that it is also accessible on iOS. Both features were first spotted late last month and are gradually being rolled out to more users.
YouTube has not confirmed if these updates will be introduced for desktop users. The testing phase is expected to continue until April 27, after which the company will decide whether to expand or discontinue these features.
