YouTube permanently bans channels over misleading AI generated movie trailers

YouTube has permanently banned 2 channels from its platform for posting misleading artificial intelligence generated content. One channel, Screen Culture, was based in India, while the other, KH Studio, operated from Georgia. According to a report, both channels uploaded fake movie trailers to attract views. The platform had earlier suspended advertisements on these channels for violating policies related to misleading and deceptive content and synthetic content disclosure.

The ban was first reported by a publication. A separate media outlet also confirmed that the channels no longer appear in YouTube search results. Attempts to access the channel links now lead to a blank page displaying the message, “This page isn’t available. Sorry about that.”

Together, the 2 channels had more than 2 million subscribers and recorded over 1 billion views. Reports stated that both channels used official film footage mixed with AI generated visuals to create fake trailers aimed at boosting view counts. Earlier this year, YouTube suspended advertising on these channels after an internal review found policy violations.

YouTube enforces strict rules against misleading and deceptive content. These include the use of false thumbnails, titles, or video footage designed to mislead viewers. The platform also requires creators to clearly disclose content that has been meaningfully altered or synthetically generated when it appears realistic.

In a statement to a news outlet, YouTube spokesperson Jack Malon said, “After their initial suspension, these channels made the necessary corrections in order to be readmitted into the YouTube Partner Program. However, once monetising again, they reverted to clear violations of our spam and misleading metadata policies, and as a result, they have been terminated from the platform.”

Following the initial ad suspension, the channels reportedly added terms such as “fan trailer” and “parody” to their video titles, which led to monetisation being restored. In the months that followed, these labels were removed. The repeat violations ultimately resulted in the permanent ban.

The founder of Screen Culture, Nikhil P. Chaudhari, told a publication that he had hired more than 10 editors to produce the AI generated videos. He added that his strategy involved uploading trailers early and repeatedly updating videos to influence YouTube’s algorithm.
