YouTube Music has launched a new AI Playlist feature aimed at making music discovery easier for Premium subscribers. The company announced the update on X, confirming that the feature is being rolled out on Android and iOS devices. With this addition, users can now create playlists by simply describing what they want to listen to, instead of manually adding songs.
Using the AI Playlist tool, subscribers can type or speak a mood, idea, or music genre. Based on this input, the app automatically generates a personalised playlist tailored to the user’s request. The feature is designed to save time and offer a more intuitive way to build playlists, especially for users who prefer quick and flexible music selection.
This move follows a similar update from Spotify, which recently introduced a feature called Prompted Playlist. That tool also allows users to create playlists by typing what they want to hear, with song suggestions based on listening history and current trends.
How YouTube Music’s AI Playlist works
According to the company, Premium subscribers can create a playlist by entering a text prompt or using voice input to describe an idea, mood, or genre. The AI Playlist option appears with a Gemini-style logo inside the app. Once a prompt is submitted, the system generates a full playlist based on the description provided.
The feature is intended to make playlist creation faster and more adaptable. However, YouTube has not shared details on how much control users will have to edit or refine the playlist after it is generated.
How this feature compares to earlier tools
In 2024, YouTube Music introduced a natural-language feature called “Ask Music.” That option allowed users to request songs using simple prompts. The new AI Playlist feature goes a step further by focusing on creating complete playlists, rather than offering a radio-style listening experience.
Steps to use the AI Playlist feature
- Open the YouTube Music app on Android or iOS
- Go to the Library tab and tap the “New” button
- Select “AI Playlist”
- Use text or voice to describe the music you want
- The app will generate a playlist based on your prompt
