YouTube has launched a range of artificial intelligence-powered features at its Made on YouTube event on Tuesday, aiming to enhance content creation across its platform. The Alphabet-owned video streaming giant announced that YouTube Shorts creators will now be able to generate video backgrounds and sound clips using a new AI tool, available for free. The company also introduced Playables on Live, which allows creators to play more than 75 games while engaging with their audience.
YouTube Integrates Google Veo 3 with Shorts
In collaboration with Google DeepMind, YouTube has integrated a custom version of the Veo 3 video generation AI model into Shorts. This tool enables creators to generate 480p resolution videos with “lower latency” at no cost.
The feature is currently rolling out to creators in the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. To access it, users can tap the create button and click on the “sparkle icon” on the top right corner. YouTube confirmed that the tool will expand to other regions soon.
YouTube further revealed that Shorts creators will soon be able to transform still photographs into videos, apply styles such as “pop art or origami,” and add objects including characters, props, or effects using text prompts powered by Veo 3. The rollout of these additional features is expected in the “coming months.”
AI for Podcasts
YouTube is also integrating Veo 3 into its Podcasts section. Podcasters will be able to generate Shorts and video clips from full episodes. For creators who do not record video with their podcasts, the AI tool can automatically produce a “customisable” video using only the audio track.
AI Features for Live Streaming
Alongside Shorts and Podcasts, YouTube has added new tools for live streaming. Playables on Live, which was previously available to users, is now extended to creators. This feature gives creators access to more than 75 games to play during livestreams while interacting and monetizing in real time.
Additionally, creators will be able to start vertical livestreams, and an AI-powered tool will allow them to create highlights or Shorts directly from their livestreams, making content repurposing easier and faster.
With these AI-driven upgrades, YouTube is positioning itself to empower creators with advanced tools that simplify content production while offering new opportunities for engagement and monetization.
