YouTube has launched YouTube Labs, a new platform designed to test experimental artificial intelligence features, beginning with AI-powered music hosts on its YouTube Music app.
The new feature provides AI-generated commentary about songs and artists, offering users a more interactive and engaging listening experience. Users will be able to access and manage this option through a dedicated icon within the app.
This move comes as YouTube follows the path set by Spotify, which introduced its own AI DJ in 2023. Spotify’s feature, available for Premium users, delivers personalised playlists with commentary powered by artificial intelligence.
For now, YouTube Labs is available only to a limited group of users in the United States, with Premium subscribers receiving priority access to these early-stage tools. The company aims to use feedback from this testing phase to shape the future of AI-driven music experiences on the platform.
By rolling out AI music hosts, YouTube is positioning itself to compete more directly with Spotify in the fast-growing space of AI-enabled music personalisation, where real-time commentary and curated playlists are becoming key differentiators.
