Xteink has brought a new pocket-sized e-reader to the market with the launch of the Xteink X4, a device made for readers who want a simple way to read on the move. It uses a 4.3-inch E- Ink screen and is even smaller than the most compact Kindle or Kobo models. It is designed to attach magnetically to the back of an iPhone or Pixel 10 and it also works with any phone that supports Qi2 or Apple MagSafe. To help users with phones that do not support these systems, Xteink includes magnetic sticks on rings in the box.
The Xteink X4 is listed at USD 69 on the company’s online store, making it more affordable than many well-known e-readers. Still, Xteink has kept the device simple, which brings a few compromises. The E-Ink screen offers a resolution of 220 PPI rather than the 300 PPI seen in most modern readers, so text may not look as sharp. It also does not have a built-in front light, so users need an external light source for night reading. On the positive side, Xteink says the 650 mAh battery can last up to 14 days when used for 1 to 3 hours each day.
Readers may notice another limitation with the Xteink X4. Since the device is not linked to major eBook stores, it only supports DRM free EPUB and TXT files. Xteink requires users to sideload books, either through a micro SD card that supports up to 512 GB or by sending files over Wi Fi. For people who depend on large digital bookstores, this may feel restrictive, but it reflects Xteink’s focus on a basic and accessible device.
Xteink has kept the controls simple by removing touchscreen features. Instead, it includes physical page turn buttons that many readers still enjoy for comfort and ease of use. It also lets users install their own fonts if they prefer more choice beyond the two included. Overall, the Xteink X4 aims to deliver a light, portable and straightforward reading experience for anyone who prefers a minimal setup without extra features.
